How Can I Help?

There are many ways to contribute to the welfare of the shelter residents.

Guardian Angel Program

Sometimes it is just enough to see that someone else cares about an animal for a "shopper" to realize that the pet has unique qualities that he may have overlooked. Find out how you can become a Guardian Angel.

Donate!

And we don't necessarily mean money. You can donate supplies, services or labor anytime. Here is a list of things we almost always need:

  • Canned Cat Food

  • Cat & Dog Toys

  • Cleaning Supplies including bleach, scrubbing bubbles, pine sol, dish soap, scrub brushes, etc.

  • Kitten/Puppy Chow

  • Neutering Sponsorship

Please call if you have a special donation in mind and we let you know if can utilize your generosity at this time.

Volunteer!

  • Imagine how nice it would be if every dog were walked every day. When the temperature drops, we confine the dogs to the inside cages and that can be very cramped for a large dog or mass of puppies. They love to get out and stretch their legs in the sunshine.

  • Lend a hand, elbow and wet shirt to give potential pets a bath and a good brushing. If the pet feels better, he is more likely to project a positive attitude towards those browsing for a new pet. Understandably, adopters are turned off by foul smelling and matted pets and can't always envision their potential.

  • Take pictures for the website. You may have noticed that many of the dog photos are behind bars, so to speak, and that is because it is hard when only one volunteer is doing the photos. A team of two is perfect, one to hold and one the shoot.

  • If you have a green thumb, consider pitching in to beautify our curb appeal. The shelter pays quite a sum to have the extensive lawns mowed and that money could be used more effectively if we had a reliable volunteer mowing service.

  • Help keep cages tidy. It is a constant chore to maintain their dry bedding and flooring. We know that this is not the most glamorous job here at the shelter but the animals appreciate it the most. (They've told us so!)

Breed Rescue!

At least 25% of the shelter animals are purebred. We are in constant contact with organizations who protect particular breeds but we can't always get the animal to them in a timely manner. This sometimes involves drives of several hours. We also need help just finding a group willing to accept an animal at all because of their own limitations. Often purebred dogs and cats are destroyed simply because we can't find a club with an open space. Find out more about breed rescue.

Give Thanks!
